Aerial view of the iconic 41-story Rainier Tower and the new 58-story Rainier Square Tower, nearing completion at Fifth & Union, in Seattle's Central Business District. Rainier Tower sits atop a concrete base tapering like a wineglass stem, it was designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki, and completed in 1977. The sloping base of the new tower is designed with a reciprocal curve to compliment the architecture of its neighboring landmark. Rainier Square Tower is the second tallest skyscraper in the Seattle skyline at 850 feet.
